HAIKYU!! The Dumpster Battle Anime Film Flies by 11 Billion Yen at JP Box Office

The viewership for the third round of the Spring Nationals continues to grow in Japan with HAIKYU!! The Dumpster Battle surpassed 11 billion yen over the last weekend, its 18th in theaters across the country. The sports anime film has also returned to the top ten in attendance over the past weekend, jumping to 9th place.

As of June 16, HAIKYU!! The Dumpster Battle has brought in 11.05 billion yen (US$74.23 million) on the back of over 7.71 million tickets sold. This makes the film the 35th highest-grossing film in Japan ever, just behind Star Wars: The Force Awakens and continues to be the 15th highest-grossing anime film after The Wind Rises. 

Toho Animation returns to produce the two Haikyu!! FINAL anime films with the animation continuing to be made by the team at Production I.G, including Susumu Mitsunaka as director and screenwriter, Takahiro Kishida as character designer and Takahiro Chiba as chief animation director. The first film, titled HAIKYU!! The Dumpster Battle, was released in Japan on February 16, 2024. No date for the second film has been announced as of yet. Crunchyroll and Sony Pictures Entertainment released the film internationally on May 30.

Haruichi Furudate published the original Haikyu!! manga series in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump from 2012 to 2020 for a total of 45 volumes. VIZ Media releases an English-language version of the manga.
