The Elusive Samurai, an upcoming TV anime based on the historical fiction manga of the same name, has revealed a new trailer (below), a new cast addition, and the opening and ending theme song performers. The series will broadcast in Japan on TOKYO MX, Tochigi TV, Gunma TV, BS11, Mainichi Broadcasting System and other stations beginning on July 6, 2024.
In The Elusive Samurai, voice actor Katsuyuki Konishi plays the role of Ashikaga Takauji. DISH// performs the opening theme for the series, which is entitled “Plan A”. Botchi Boromaru performs the ending theme for the series, which is entitled “Kamakura STYLE”.
Known as Nige Jozu no Wakagimi in Japan, the original The Elusive Samurai manga by Yusei Matsui is serialized by Shueisha in their Weekly Shonen Jump manga magazine, and an English language version is available from Viz Media. Yuta Yamazaki directs the TV anime at animation studio CloverWorks, while Yoriko Tomita provides the series composition, Yasushi Nishiya provides the character designs, and Akiyuki Tateyama and GEMBI provide the music.

After the massacre of his family by the traitor Ashikaga Takauji, Tokiyuki flees with the help of a handful of loyal retainers who have also survived the purge. One of them is Suwa Yorishige, an ally of the Hojo clan and lord of Suwa Province. The slightly odd Yorishige also claims to be clairvoyant and foretells that Tokiyuki will one day become the ruler of Japan. But for the moment, escaping from enemy territory is the priority!
