Yoshihiro Takahashi’s legendary manga Ginga -Nagareboshi Gin- (“Silver Fang: The Shooting Star Gin”) is getting another stage adaptation—this time courtesy of theater troupe Kobe Sailor Boys.
Founded in 2023, Kobe Sailor Boys consists of young men who grew up in the Kansai region. Their activities include “semi-fiction” staged readings, original music, collab cafés with special menus and live performances, and fully-staged 2.5D plays. Ginga -Nagareboshi Gin- will mark the second of these fully-staged “regular performances,” and will include both a play and a concert.
The role of Riki, Gin’s father, will be played by guest actor Kandai Ueda. Takashi Kitadai will serve as narrator for the show. The rest of the roles will be played by members of the troupe.
The original Ginga -Nagareboshi Gin- follows the story of Gin, an Akita Inu pup who joins a pack of wild dogs. The manga ran in Weekly Shonen Jump from 1983-1987 and was adapted into an anime in 1986. Its sequel, Ginga Densetsu Weed, ran from 1999-2009 and received an anime adaptation in 2005.
The Kobe Sailor Boys production of Ginga -Nagareboshi Gin- will take place August 2-11 at the AiiA 2.5 Theater Kobe in Hyogo.
