NieR:Automata Ver1.1a, the ongoing TV anime based on the genre-bending 2017 action / RPG developed by PlatinumGames and published by Square Enix, has published a new key visual (below) and a new trailer featuring the new opening theme for the series, “Black Box”, which is performed by LiSA. The second cour of the series will broadcast in Japan beginning in July 2024, and the first cour is currently streaming on Crunchyroll.

Ryouji Masuyama directs NieR:Automata Ver1.1a at animation studio A-1 Pictures. Yoko Taro (director of NieR:Automata) and Ryouji Masuyama also provide the series composition, while Jun Nakai provides the character designs and serves as the chief animation director. Nakai also illustrated the new visual below, which features an ominous glimpse of Red Girl, the main antagonist of the game.

However, the war reaches a stalemate as the <Machine Lifeforms> continue to multiply infinitely. In turn, humanity deploys a new unit of android soldiers as an ultimate weapon: YoRHa.

Newly dispatched to Earth 2B joins 9S, the analyst currently stationed there, where amid their mission, they encounter a myriad of mysterious phenomena…
