What would Hello Kitty look like as a magical girl? For her 50th anniversary, and with a little help from CLAMP, we’ll find out!It was announced today that the legendary creative circle will collaborate with Sanrio’s poster girl for her ongoing 50th anniversary celebrations. This will be the second collab in the series, the first being with illustrator Tera Terada.For the collab, both Sakura Kinomoto and Hello Kitty sport a specially designed magical girl costume:
Starting May 24, the costume designs will be on display at the Lady Kitty House at Sanrio Puroland. Visitors to the amusement park will also be able to meet Hello Kitty in the new costume starting July 8.
Merchandise including clear files, acrylic stands, keychains and other collectibles will also go on sale on July 8.The Hello Kitty 50th anniversary celebrations began on November 1, 2023 and will run until December 31, 2024. Ten-year-old Sakura lives a pretty normal life with her older brother, Toya, and widowed father, Fujitaka. Or she did, until the day she returned home from school to discover a glowing book in her father’s study. After opening the book and releasing the cards within, Sakura is tasked with collecting each of these magical cards, while trying to live the life of a normal fourth grader. In the monumental task of collecting all the cards, Sakura must rely on her friends and family, and decide what she finds most important in life.
