The original Tono to Inu manga is serialized in Flex Comix’s Comic Polaris digital manga magazine. Set in the Warring States period, the story follows Tono, a formerly fearsome samurai warrior who has fallen into poverty. Tono ends up adopting a Corgi dog, and the dog lives a laid-back and unrestrained life despite Tono’s struggles.
