A great year for apes just got even more bananas! After a cryptic tease from the TOHO Animation Twitter account, it was officially announced today that a TV anime adaptation of Shun Umezawa’s award-winning The Darwin Incident manga is in the works.A “super teaser” visual depicting main characters Charlie and Lucy was released, along with a celebratory illustration by Umezawa. Additional details about the anime, such as staff, cast and release date, are yet to be confirmed.

Shun Umezawa’s The Darwin Incident manga has been serialized in Monthly Afternoon magazine since June 2020 and currently spans seven collected volumes. The series went on to earn the 15th Manga Taisho award, 10th spot on Kono Manga ga Sugoi!’s male reader ranking, an Excellence Award at the Japan Media Arts Festival and France’s “Asie de la Critique” award, among other accolades.Kodansha USA publishes the manga’s official English version and describes the story:
