Japanese entertainment company Shochiku will stream the recorded kabuki stage play adaptation of Monkey Punch’s Lupin The Third manga series with English subtitles to 28 countries and regions worldwide on its official online streaming service, Kabuki On Demand. The livestream will begin on August 11, 2024 at 9:00 p.m. (JST), with the archive available to watch from August 12-18. The countries and regions include: Argentina, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Denmark, France, Germany, Greece, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Korea, Mexico, Netherlands, Philippines, Portugal, Singapore, Spain, Switzerland, Taiwan, Thailand, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom, and United States. The overseas viewing fee is 4,200 yen (26 USD), including a 200 yen system usage fee.Shochiku’s official YouTube channel has posted an 80-second digest clip to promote the stream.

As the first kabuki play adaptation in the history of the long-running Lupin The Third franchise, KABUKI “LUPIN Ⅲ” was performed at Shinbashi Enbujo in Tokyo from December 5-25, 2023.
Shochiku describes the story:
This original story is set in the Azuchi-Momoyama period (the last third of the 16th century), in which the great and infamous thief, Ishikawa Goemon, lives. Lupin III is engaged in a fierce struggle for the gold seal of Himiko, a national treasure. To break that seal, two treasured swords are needed, and if the swords and the seal are together, it is said that one gains the power to rule the world. However, one of the swords was in the hands of Ishikawa Goemon, and he, too, was searching for Himiko’s gold seal. Mashiba Hisayoshi, the ruler of Japan, also seems to be looking for the gold seal, and Lupin’s arch-rival, Inspector Zenigata, is in pursuit of Lupin, Goemon and the others…
