“Rice is power.”
Ahead of the anime’s July 6 premiere in Japan, the official website and accounts for Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin announced a collaboration with Japan’s Ministry of Agriculture, Foresty and Fisheries for this summer, which will entail participation in Kasumigaseki’s Children’s Tour Day event, a consumer exhibition display, videos on the Ministry’s BUZZMAFF channels, a dietary education feature in ‘aff’ magazine and miscellaneous social media posts.

Based on the video game developed by Edelweiss, Masayuki Yoshihara (The Eccentric Family) directs the Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin anime at studio P.A. Works, with series composition by Jukki Hanada (Sengoku Youko), character designs by Mio Fujishima and music by Yoshiaki Fujisawa (Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation).
The story of Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin is described as follows:
Spoiled harvest goddess Sakuna finds herself banished from her opulent celestial home to an island overrun with demons. In the untamed wilderness, she must rediscover her birthright as the daughter of a warrior god and harvest goddess by weathering the elements, fighting monsters, and cultivating rice, the source of her power. By her side in this forbidding place is her guardian Tama and a group of outcast humans. Together, these unlikely companions must join hands to tame both the soil and the demons of Hinoe Island.
