Case Closed: The Million-dollar Pentagram, the 27th feature film in the Case Closed/Detective Conan anime franchise, earned 534 million yen (3.42 million USD) on 362,000 admissions in its fifth weekend of May 10-12, a 53 percent week-on-week drop according to Kogyo Tsushinsha. Despite the drop, the film still stayed on top at the Japanese box office for five consecutive weekends now. Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, another new Hollywood release in Japan last weekend, made its second-place debut with 271 million yen (1.74 million USD).After 30 days of release, The Million-dollar Pentagram has earned a cumulative 12.8 billion yen (81.95 million USD) on 8.95 million admissions. It has now become the 27th top-grossing film of all-time ever released in Japan, surpassing Steven Spielberg’s 1993 film Jurassic Park.

BLUE LOCK THE MOVIE -EPISODE NAGI-, an anime feature film based on the BLUE LOCK side story manga of the same name, climbed up one position to third place in its fourth weekend, bringing its total revenue to 1.4 billion yen (8.96 million USD) on 1.07 million admissions. It has become the sixth Japanese anime film of 2024 that has reached the one billion yen mark.Umamusume: Pretty Derby ROAD TO THE TOP, a new compilation film from the Umamusume Pretty Derby franchise, opened in 31 theaters on May 10 for a limited run of two weeks, ranking sixth in its opening weekend. The 98-minute film is based on the four-episode web anime series of the same name which streamed on YouTube from April to May 2023. On May 24, an all-new feature film from the franchise, Umamusume: Pretty Derby Beginning of a New Era, is also set to open in Japan. HAIKYU!! The Dumpster Battle, the first part of the HAIKYU!! FINAL duology anime films, went down six places to ninth in its 13th weekend.

An anime film adaptation of ex-Nogizaka46 member Kazumi Takayama’s coming-of-age novel trapezium opened in 203 theaters across Japan on May 10, making its 10th-place debut. The film also ranked seventh in Filmarks’ first-day satisfaction ranking with an average rating of 3.42/5.0 based on 506 reviews.

The official website for Mobile Suit Gundam SEED FREEDOM, the feature film sequel from the Mobile Suit Gundam Seed franchise, confirmed the film had earned 4,643,824,710 yen (29.72 million USD) from 2,776,658 ticket sales in 109 days since its debut in Japanese theaters on January 26. The film will end its Japanese theatrical run on May 23.
