Classic anime film Panda! Go, Panda! is a mainstay for many reasons—a big one being the pre-Ghibli involvement of legendary directors Hayao Miyazaki and Isao Takahata. The beloved children’s feature will be coming back to theaters this month for one night only, followed by a special talk show event.
The screening will be held as part of a special program via DreamPass, with a giveaway taking place in the lobby on the same night.
After the screening of the film, Takeshi Honda (animation director, The Boy and the Heron) and film researcher Seiji Kanoh will appear for a live talk show event.
The screening will take place May 25 at the Akihabara UDX Theatre in Tokyo.
Panda! Go Panda! is written by Hayao Miyazaki, directed by Isao Takahata and features animation production by Tokyo Movie Shinsha and A Production. The film was originally released in Japanese theaters on December 17, 1972. GKIDS has licensed the film in North America and describes it thus:
Mimiko is a cheerful young girl who is left on her own while her grandmother is away. When little Panny Panda and his father Papanda stumble into her home, Mimiko welcomes them in as her new family. Adventures ensue as Mimiko discovers the challenges of taking care of her new cuddly friends.
