Case Closed: The Million-dollar Pentagram, the 27th feature film in the Case Closed/Detective Conan anime franchise, earned 1.627 billion yen (10.51 million USD) on 1.13 million admission in its fourth weekend of May 3-5, according to Kogyo Tsushinsha. Mainly due to Japan’s Golden Week holiday period, the fourth-weekend revenue was 20 percent up from the previous third weekend’s 1.355 billion yen (8.76 million USD).The film has now stayed number one at the Japan box office for four consecutive weekends since its release on April 12. After 25 days on release, the movie has earned a cumulative 12.09 billion yen (78.13 million USD) on 8.453 million admissions, making it the second top-grossing film in the Detective Conan anime film series, behind only the 2023 film Black Iron Submarine with 13.88 billion yen. The Million-dollar Pentagram has now also become the 31st top-grossing film of all-time ever released in Japan, surpassing Hayao Miyazaki’s 2013 film The Wind Rises with 12.02 billion yen.

HAIKYU!! The Dumpster Battle, the first part of the HAIKYU!! FINAL duology anime films, climbed up three positions to third, earning 227 million yen (1.47 million USD) on 157,000 admissions in its 12th weekend. As previously reported, the film surpassed the 10 billion yen mark as of April 30. The movie’s cumulative total revenue after Golden Week reached 10.343 billion yen (66.82 million USD) on 7,228,000 admissions.

BLUE LOCK THE MOVIE -EPISODE NAGI-, an anime feature film based on the BLUE LOCK side story manga of the same name, went down one position to fourth place in its third weekend.Onmyoji 0, a new live-action film inspired by Baku Yumemakura’s historical fantasy novel series Onmyoji, slipped two positions to sixth in its third weekend.Doraemon: Nobita’s Earth Symphony, the Doraemon anime franchise’s latest 43rd feature film, held the same eighth-place spot it did last weekend, now in its tenth weekend of release.A live-action film adaptation of Jun Mutsuki’s Buzzy Noise seinen manga opened in 221 theaters on May 3, making its 10th-place debut in the weekend box office. The film also ranked fourth in Filmarks’ first-day satisfaction ranking with an average rating of 3.83/5.0 based on 547 reviews.

While disappearing from the Top 10 for two weekends, Mobile Suit Gundam SEED FREEDOM, the feature film sequel from the Mobile Suit Gundam Seed franchise, brought its total cumulative revenue to 4.59 billion yen (29.65 million USD) from 2.74 million ticket sales in 102 days since its debut in Japanese theaters on January 26, according to Mantan Web. The film will end its nationwide theatrical run in Japan on May 23 — which marks 17 weeks after its release.
