Japan Box Office: Case Closed: The Million-dollar Pentagram Stays at No.1 in 2nd Weekend

The revenue was 112 percent of the two-week revenue of the franchise’s current top-grossing film, Black Iron Submarine (5.8 billion yen / 2023).

BLUE LOCK THE MOVIE -EPISODE NAGI- — an anime feature film based on the BLUE LOCK side story manga of the same name by Muneyuki Kaneshiro (story), Yusuke Nomura (character designs), and Kouta Sannomiya (art) — opened in 341 theaters across Japan on April 19. The film earned 463 million yen (2.99 million USD) on 337,000 admissions in its first three-day weekend, making its second-place debut in the weekend box office ranking.Meanwhile, the film ranked fourth in Filmarks’ first-day satisfaction ranking with an average rating of 3.64/5.0 based on 789 reviews.As previously announced, Crunchyroll and Sony Pictures Entertainment will release BLUE LOCK THE MOVIE -EPISODE NAGI- starting with the North American release on June 28, and in other select international regions in Latin America, Europe, the Middle East and Africa at a later date.

Onmyoji 0, a new live-action film inspired by Baku Yumemakura’s historical fantasy novel series Onmyoji, released in 362 theaters across Japan on April 19, making its third-place debut with 255 million yen (1.65 million USD) on 187,000 admissions. The film also ranked fifth in Filmarks’ first-day satisfaction ranking with an average rating of 3.50/5.0 based on 1,053 reviews.

HAIKYU!! The Dumpster Battle, the first part of the HAIKYU!! FINAL duology anime films, stayed last weekend’s spot of fourth place in its tenth weekend of release. Its cumulative total revenue has reached 9.7 billion yen (62.69 million USD) on 6.83 million admissions, making it the 47th top-grossing film of all time in Japan. Doraemon: Nobita’s Earth Symphony, the Doraemon anime franchise’s latest 43rd feature film, went down one place to sixth in its eighth weekend. Godzilla Minus One was also down one position to ninth in its 25th weekend, bringing its total to 7.45 billion yen (48.15 million USD) on 4.93 million admissions in 171 days since its release according to the film’s official Twitter. Mobile Suit Gundam SEED FREEDOM, the feature film sequel from the Mobile Suit Gundam Seed franchise, ranked tenth in its 13th weekend, four positions down from last weekend.
