The official website for the upcoming TV anime adaptation of Jyanome’s Twilight Out of Focus boys’ love manga has released a 70-second teaser trailer.The clip begins with a scene from a meeting of the film club where it is announced that the theme of the next shooting is boys’ love (BL). It then shows a number of scenes that the distance between Mao Tsuchiya (CV: Yoshitsugu Matsuoka) and Hisashi Otomo (CV: Yuma Uchida) is getting closer. In the end clip, Mao says, “How did I notice it? I didn’t want to notice a love that would end before it began…”
The animated series is set to premiere in Japan in July 2024. Prior to the TV premiere, an advance screening event for its first two episodes is set to be held at the Shinjuku Wald 9 theater in Tokyo at on May 29, 2024. The two main voice cast members — Yoshitsugu Matsuoka and Yuma Uchida — are confirmed to join. Advance tickets for the event are now on sale at Animate Online Shop from today.
Toshinori Watabe (TEPPEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Laughing ’til You Cry) is directing the adaptation at Studio DEEN, with series composition by Yoshimi Narita (Shikimori’s Not Just a Cutie) and character designs by Yoko Kikuchi (Junjo Romantica).Kodansha USA publishes an official English version of the manga and describes the story:
Second-years Mao Tsuchiya and Hisashi Ohtomo make three promises: 1) That Mao will never tell anyone that Hisashi is gay and has a boyfriend, 2) That Hisashi will never think of Mao “in that way,” and 3) That they’ll always knock before entering, in case someone is having some “private time.” The two’s ground rules should ensure a peaceful life together in their dorm, but life is never as simple as it should be, and some things are not so easily promised…
