In ten days, Shinagawa’s Maxell Aqua Park will be transformed into an elegant gala fit for Marie Antoinette herself. The Rose of Aqua Park -Let’s Go to the Beautiful Sea Ball!- will turn the space into a European palace, filled with beautiful sights and (of course) stunning displays of sea life.
Each area will feature aquariums displaying fish themed to the worldview of Riyoko Ikeda’s classic series. The entrance of the event, designed as a grand staircase, will include tanks with Japanese lionfish—which, like roses, are both beautiful and thorny:
The Queen’s Banquet Hall is decorated with digital projections of dancing rose petals. Occasionally, the elegant atmosphere will change as the Black Knight swings through:
Other areas in the exhibition include the “Garden of Memories,” arranging fish in tanks to commemorate seven different scenes from the series; and the “White Rose Waltz,” depicting Lady Oscar’s grace and beauty in a display of jellyfish in crystalline tanks.
The venue’s café will also get a Rose of Versailles-themed makeover, offering a special selection of menu items:
Two dolphin shows will also be available to view—”Rondo of the Dolphins” during the day and “Beautiful Rose Story” at night:
Even with all these spectacles and events scheduled, there’s still more—including a photo contest with an annual pass as a prize, a “Dressy Night” event where you can dress up and tour the aquarium after closing, and limited-edition goods.
The Rose of Aqua Park will run from April 25 to June 30 at Maxell Aqua Park in Shinagawa, Tokyo.
