Fans of Insomniacs After School will have gotten a secondhand glimpse of Nanao, the city in Ishikawa Prefecture where Makoto Ojiro’s series takes place. And anyone who’s seen the live-action film will have witnessed the city’s annual Seihakusai Festival, during which volunteers and attendees can help pull impressive floats called dekayama. The festival is usually held May 1-5; however, due to the Noto Peninsula Earthquake earlier this year, the traditional event has been postponed.In its place, fans are invited to a support event centered around Insomniacs After School, as part of an effort to raise funds for disaster relief. Exhibitions of artwork from the manga, stills from the anime, and props from the film will all be on display. Ojiro has drawn postcards for the event, which will be handed out to visitors.
Ojiro will also be on hand at the venue May 3 and 4 doing live painting demonstrations. A special video titled “You’re Not Alone” will also be debuted.In conjunction with the event, a donation page went live yesterday on the Big Comics web manga site. Until April 15, 2025, Ojiro and Shogakukan will donate the proceeds from sales of Insomniacs After School to the Nanao City Disaster Relief Fund.The Insomniacs After School Disaster Area Support Event will take play from May 3 to June 2 at Ishikawa Prefecture Patria.The original Insomniacs After School manga was serialized in Shogakukan’s Weekly Big Comic Spirits seinen manga magazine.
