The newest Black Butler anime adaptation is about to premiere on April 13 with Black Butler -Public School Arc-! To prepare for the occasion, Manga UP! — the manga service from Square Enix — announced today that volumes 1 to 14 of the Black Butler manga English translation will be free to read on the global version of the app until April 17 (at 8:00 a.m. PT)! The chapters free to read lead up to the beginning of -Public School Arc-.
The original Black Butler manga by Yana Toboso began in 2006 in Square Enix’s GFantasy manga magazine, with volume 34 of the manga releasing on April 26 in Japan. An English language version is also available from Yen Press. The first three seasons and OVAs for the Black Butler anime produced at A-1 Pictures aired between 2008 to 2014, with the Book of the Atlantic film released in 2017.Kenjiro Okada will direct Black Butler -Public School Arc- at animation studio CloverWorks, with Hiroyuki Yoshino providing the series composition and Yumi Shimizu providing the character designs.The Manga UP! service launched in January 2017 in Japan, with the global English version launching in July 2022.
