The love story between Yuki and Itsuomi unfolding in A Sign of Affection was one of the sweetest and most delightful stories to follow in the past winter season.
During last night’s airing of Brazilian broadcast channel Rede TV’s program Leitura Dinâmica, a special segment was featured highlighting the Brazilian dubbing team’s work on the anime.
In the series, Yuki is a deaf woman navigating the challenges of college life, and when it came to choosing the person to voice the character, Brazilian dubbing director Luísa Horta explained that Dubrasil studio wanted to cast someone who shared similar experiences to portray the character. And this is how they found the brilliant Beatriz Oliveira, who is an oral deaf actress, and as we can see, she was the perfect choice for the role. This was her very first role in the voice acting industry!
Yuki’s voice actress, Beatriz Oliveira, highlights the importance of having members of the deaf community in various spaces, such as dubbing, acting and singing, emphasizing that deafness does not hinder their abilities in any way.
Gabriela Castro, the marketing director for Crunchyroll in Brazil, also noted that there was special care taken in selecting the dubbing studio and the actress tasked with voicing Yuki. It was essential to choose someone who could authentically bring the character to life, understanding all her nuances and life experiences.
And this choice was undoubtedly validated by Beatriz’s exceptional performance in dubbing Yuki, contributing significantly to A Sign of Affection popularity in Brazil.
You can catch the segment featuring the A Sign of Affection anime starting from the 30:30 minute mark in the video below.
