The biggest anime industry event of the year is currently occurring in Japan with AnimeJapan 2024’s business days bringing deals that will shape the next few years of the industry. The public days however were over the weekend and ended with over 130,000 people attending over the two days, 32% more than 2023’s event but still lower than pre-pandemic levels.
Over the two days, 132,557 walked through the doors of Tokyo Big Sight to visit a record-breaking 110 exhibitors. This is a 32,000-person increase over last year, which saw 100,051 attendees, but is still down from 2019’s 146,616 attendees.
What’s more, AnimeJapan revealed that the event raised 6,427,850 yen (US$42,477) for the Ishikawa Prefecture 2024 Noto Peninsula Earthquake Disaster Relief Fund, which consists of a portion of the money made by the event rather than straight donations.
Looking to the future, AnimeJapan confirmed that the 2025 outing will start on March 22 with two public days over Saturday and Sunday at Tokyo Big Sight and then the business days on March 24 and March 25.
