Look Back, an anime movie based on the one-shot manga by Tatsuki Fujimoto (Chainsaw Man), took the number one spot both in gross and ticket sales in its second weekend. In the weekend of July 5-7, the movie earned 220 million yen (1.37 million USD) on 129,900 admissions, according to Kogyo Tsushinsha (only a 2.2 percent drop from its opening weekend). As reported last week, the film did not match Soreike! Anpanman: Baikinman to Ehon no Lulun in terms of ticket sales last weekend, and only came in second place. However, in its second week of release, the movie surpassed Anpanman in both box office revenue and ticket sales becoming the best-selling movie last weekend in Japan.Look Back has reached 600 million yen (3.73 million USD) on 360,000 admissions for its cumulative domestic gross. The film began its run in a relatively small number of 129 theaters in Japan and, thanks to the box office success, the film’s official website announced that 37 more theaters will be added starting July 12.

Soreike! Anpanman: Baikinman to Ehon no Lulun (Let’s Go! Anpanman: Baikinman and Lulun of the Picture Book), the 35th feature film in the Anpanman anime franchise, earned 101.5 million yen (63,954 USD) on 78,300 admissions in its second weekend, ranking second and bringing its total to 300 million yen (1.86 million USD).

Case Closed: The Million-dollar Pentagram, the 27th feature film in the Case Closed/Detective Conan anime franchise, ranked sixth in its 13th weekend, up one position from last weekend. The movie now has a cumulative total of 15.3 billion yen (95 million USD) earned on 10.7 million ticket sales since debuting in Japanese cinemas on April 12. The film now stands as the 15th highest-grossing film in Japanese box office history.

The third chapter of Code Geass: Rozé of the Recapture opened in 60 theaters on July 5, ranking seventh in its opening weekend, the same position as the second. The first chapter released in Japan on May 10 and the second on June 7. The final fourth chapter is set to release in Japan on August 2. Internationally, the 12-episode series is streaming on Disney+ since June 21, with new episodes releasing weekly under the ‘Star’ brand.
