Somehow, it’s been 20 years since director Shinichiro Watanabe and Manglobe’s Samurai Champloo anime first aired. The series is celebrating with a new global Video Clash contest, which invites fans to create their own music videos using footage from the anime and a selection of designated music tracks. There’s also a stylish new key visual featuring Mugen and Jin from Samurai Champloo character designer Kazuto Nakazawa. Check out the full visual below and read on for more about the Video Clash contest.
The Video Clash contest is made up of two categories: a Shorts Category that will be submitted through YouTube Shorts and a Music Video Category for full music videos on YouTube. The winning videos will be released on the FlyingDog YouTube channel as official music videos. Those who win the Shorts category will receive a US$300 gift card and those who win the Music Video category will receive a US$1,000 cash prize. The contest is open to anyone aged 18 and over. The official Video Clash contest website is available here. You can catch the full Samurai Champloo anime on Crunchyroll, which describes the series like so:
Mugen is a ferocious, animalistic warrior with a fighting style inspired by break-dancing. Jin is a ronin samurai who wanders the countryside alone. They may not be friends, but their paths continually cross. And when ditzy waitress Fuu gets them out of hot water with the local magistrate, they agree to join her search for the samurai who smells like sunflowers.
