Director Masaaki Yuasa and Science SARU’s DEVILMAN crybaby anime has been absent from home video since it debuted on Netflix back in 2018. Now, European boutique distributor Anime Limited, AKA All the Anime, is changing that with plans for a Blu-ray release in the UK and North America.Details are light, but the announcement was made at Japan Expo over the weekend. We’ll have to stay tuned for more on the release, but it’s great to know this one will be preserved on home video at last.
DEVILMAN crybaby previously won the award for Anime of the Year at the 2019 Crunchyroll Anime Awards. Netflix streams the DEVILMAN crybaby anime—which adapts Go Nagai’s classic Devilman manga—and describes it:
The protagonist Akira Fudo (Kouki Uchiyama) learns from his best friend, Ryo Asuka (Ayumu Murase), that an ancient race of demons has returned to take back the world from humans. Ryo tells Akira that the only way to defeat the demons is to incorporate their supernatural powers, and suggests that he unite with a demon himself. Akira succeeds in transforming into Devilman, who possesses both the powers of a demon and the soul of a human. The battle of Devilman and Akira Fudo begins.
