With only a few more weeks until The Colors Within premieres in Japan, the upcoming Naoko Yamada-directed anime film released a brand new trailer today – though, it’s a little more on-beat for the creator who enjoys showcasing her characters goofing around and showing their personality through movement.
The special dance trailer, presented in a TikTok-like format, follows the three main characters, Kimi, Totsuko and Rui, dancing along to “Sui Kin Chi Ka Moku Dotten Amen” with moves that are reminiscent of those popular with those who upload short-form dance videos.
The dance choreography was created by the dance troupe The Powerpuff Boys, who are known for choreographing SEKAI NO OWARI’s mega-hit “Habit” and Ano’s viral tune “Chu, Tayousei.” Yamada drew the storyboard for the trailer with animation director Takashi Kojima drawing all the cuts. The trailer was inspired by the staff members getting closer during production and dancing while working, which they eventually filmed and became the basis of Kimi, Totsuko and Rui’s dance moves.
The full music video for “Sui Kin Chi Ka Moku Dotten Amen” will be released on July 17 at midnight.
Naoko Yamada (K-ON!, A Silent Voice) helms The Colors Within as director and original creator at studio Science SARU, with a script by Reiko Yoshida (Liz and the Blue Bird), soundtrack by Kensuke Ushio (The Heike Story) and daisukerichard’s original character designs adapted for animation by Takashi Kojima (Ride Your Wave), who also serves as animation director.
GKIDS announced that they will distribute the film North America, Latin America, Australia and New Zealand, and describes the story as such:
Totsuko is a high school student with the ability to see the ‘colors’ of others. Colors of bliss, excitement, and serenity, plus a color she treasures as her favorite. Kimi, a classmate at her school, gives off the most beautiful color of all. Although she doesn’t play an instrument, Totsuko forms a band with Kimi and Rui, a quiet music enthusiast they meet at a used bookstore in a far corner of town. As they practice at an old church on a remote island, music brings them together, forming friendships and stirring affections. Will they discover their true ‘colors’?
