In its eighth weekend of May 31- June 2, Case Closed: The Million-dollar Pentagram, the 27th feature film in the Case Closed/Detective Conan anime franchise, earned 229 million yen (1.47 million USD) on 172,000 admissions according to Kogyo Tsushinsha, 24.7 percent down from last weekend, but keeping the same third-place position.As reported yesterday, the film’s official website announced that The Million-dollar Pentagram had earned a cumulative 14.4 billion yen (91.57 million USD) from 10.06 million ticket sales during its 52-day run through June 2 in Japan. It has already become the highest-grossing film in the Case Closed/Detective Conan anime franchise, and the 16th top-grossing film of all-time ever released in Japan, surpassing Makoto Shinkai’s 2019 film Weathering With You with 14.23 billion yen (90.38 million USD).

After making its second place debut last weekend, Umamusume: Pretty Derby Beginning of a New Era, an all-new feature film from the Umamusume: Pretty Derby franchise, earned 190 million yen (1.28 million USD) on 138,000 admissions in its second weekend, a 46 percent week-on-week drop, ranking fourth. The 108-minute film featuring Jungle Pocket (CV: Yuri Fujimoto) now has accumulative of six million yen (3.84 million USD) earned from 430,000 ticket sales.

Following the eight-episode TV drama series aired in Japan from April to May 2024, the live-action feature film inspired by Soichiro Yamamoto’s romantic comedy manga series Teasing Master Takagi-san, also known as KARAKAI JOZU NO TAKAGI-SAN, opened in 251 theaters across Japan on May 31. The film starring Mei Nagano as the main heroine, Takagi, and Fumiya Takahashi as the male protagonist, Nishikata, earned 167 million yen (1.07 million USD) on 129,000 admissions, making its fifth place debut in the weekend box office.The film, which is set ten years after the original manga, ranks fourth in Filmarks’ first-day satisfaction ranking with an average rating of 3.7/5.0 based on 938 reviews.

In its 16th weekend, HAIKYU!! The Dumpster Battle, the first part of the HAIKYU!! FINAL duology anime films, gained one position and placed eighth. It now has a cumulative of 10.9 billion yen (69.79 million USD) on 7.62 million admissions in Japan.The second of the two-part DEAD DEAD DEMONS DEDEDEDE DESTRUCTION anime films, based on Inio Asano’s (Solanin, Downfall) manga of the same name, slipped to tenth in its second weekend, six positions down from its opening weekend.
