We’re officially heading south for the winter, as rom-com anime Okinawa de Suki ni Natta Ko ga Hogen Sugite Tsura Sugiru (“I Girl I Fell For in Okinawa Has a Difficult Dialect”) today announced a January 2025 broadcast with a brand-new preview video and visual.
Further enforcing the series’ regional focus, it was also revealed that Etsuko Kozakura (Akamaru in Yo-kai Watch) is voicing Oki Memo Shisha, a mascot-type lion character inspired by Okinawan/Ryukyuan mythology, Okinawan native Tarusuke Shingaki (Nathanial in Bungo Stray Dogs) is providing narration and Okinawan rock band HY is in charge of the opening song.

Based on the web manga by Egumi Sora, Okinawa de Suki ni Natta Ko ga Hougen Sugite Tsura Sugiru is directed by Shingo Tanabe under the supervision of Shin Itagaki at studio Millepensee, with the pair also responsible for series composition. Tomohiro Yoshida is providing the character designs, while Tomohisa Ishikawa, Yoshimi Katayama and Ayana Kinjo are in charge of music.
Okinawa de Suki ni Natta Ko ga Hougen Sugite Tsura Sugiru has been published on the Kurage Bunch web manga platform since January 2020. The series’ synopsis reads as such:
I, Teruaki Nakamura, transferred to Okinawa and fell in love with a girl… but I can’t understand her dialect. Thankfully, Higa-san is always helping me out with translations.
A cross-cultural romance that’s a wee-bit different begins on the southern island!
