Visual Arts brand Key has now been creating visual novels and inspiring adaptations for 25 years. Known for the likes of Air and Clannad, among others, the studio debuted with the Kanon visual novel on June 4, 1999. To celebrate, Visual Arts shared a commemorative video looking back at all the hard work that went into these beloved creations over the years. Check out the overview, starting with snippets of Kanon before moving ahead to Air (2000), Clannad (2004), Tomoyo After: It’s a Wonderful Life (2005) and beyond.
Key 25th Anniversary Special Movie
Some of the anime adaptations based on Key works are available to stream on Crunchyroll, including Kanon and Planetarian. Here’s how Crunchyroll describes the former:
Yuichi visits his cousin for the first time in years and discovers a haunting fact: he has no recollection of any previous visits. The pieces of the puzzle that might explain the gaps in his memory begin to appear—a beauty with blazing tresses; a girl with the winged backpack; a sword-wielding demon slayer. Now, Yuichi must put his missing past together in the vaguely familiar present.
