The phrase “neverending horrors” has never been more appropriate than for the Theatre of Darkness: Yamishibai anime, which is continuing its reign of terror with a thirteenth season premiering on TV Tokyo on July 14, 2024 at 26:50 JST (effectively July 15 at 2:50).
A main visual was also released today, along with confirmation of cast members Kanji Tsuda, Kotomi Takahata, Toshimasa Niiro, Shinji Matsubayashi, Yutaka Shimizu, Takaya Yamaguchi, Yuta Hoshino, Risa Aizawa and Ringo Koishio.
“Nostalgia” will be the new season’s theme.
Main Visual
The latest season of Theatre of Darkness: Yamishibai is once again directed by Akira Funada, with scripts by Hiromu Kumamoto, Mitsuhiro Sasaki, Choji Yoshikawa, Saori Aoki and Dan Osano.
Crunchyroll streams every season of the anime so far and the live-action series, describing the setup like so:
Each week at dusk, a man in a yellow mask arrives at a nearby playground. Gather at his feet to listen and learn from the mysterious storyteller. He recounts tales of horror to his captive audience, each story darker and more sinister than the last. Drawing from traditional paper dramas, the stories weave myths, urban legends, and rumors from Japan’s long history of haunting tales.
