The official website for the upcoming live-action film adaptation of Masamitsu Nigatsu’s romantic comedy action manga Honeko Akabane’s Bodyguards released a main trailer and a main visual today.The trailer features the film’s theme song “BREAKOUT” performed by the Japanese male idol group Snow Man. The group’s 20-year-old member Raul is also cast as the film’s protagonist, Arakuni Ibuki. “I am very happy that the group’s song will be added to the film I am participating in,” said Raul. “It is a great honor for me and for the group, so I thought carefully about the meaning of singing this song as a group. I was able to share the screenplay and the atmosphere of the work site with the members while working on it, so the team and I were satisfied with the finished song. I hope you enjoy the chemical reaction with the movie.”

Junichi Nishikawa is directing the movie, who has helmed many successful Japanese TV drama series such as Legal High (2012-2014), Fragile (2016), and Zettai Reido (2020). Other cast members include Natsuki Deguchi, Daiken Okudaira, Hikaru Takahashi, Yuki Kura, Chihiro Yamamoto, Junki Totsuka, Yui Narumi, Seina Nakata, Mijika Nagai, Ryotaro Sakaguchi, and Subaru Kimura. The film is scheduled to open in Japan on August 2, 2024.The Honeko Akabane’s Bodyguards manga is serialized in Kodansha’s Weekly Shonen Magazine since September 2022, with eight tankobon volumes released in Japan to date.Kodansha USA, which will start releasing the manga’s English edition in print in January 2025, describes the story:
They have only one goal – to kill Honeko Akabane! One day, Arakuni Ibuki learns that his childhood friend, Honeko Akabane, is being targeted by assassins! Both of them are in Class 3-4 at Sosoji High School, and Ibuki is ordered to protect Akabane for one year. His goal is to ensure that she graduates safely, but he must do so without her realizing it. And so begins his secret life as a bodyguard at school! However, there seems to be more secrets within the so-called “Class 3-4”…?!
