BOCCHI THE ROCK! Re: — the first of the two-part recap films based on the BOCCHI THE ROCK! TV anime series — opened in 132 theaters across Japan on June 7, 2024. Despite the movie releasing in about one-third the number of theaters compared to other major films in Japan (around 370-380), BOCCHI THE ROCK! Re: earned 218 million yen (1.39 million USD) on 140,000 admissions in its first three-day weekend of June 7-9, making a first-place debut in the weekend box office ranking according to Kogyo Tsushinsha.The second recap film, BOCCHI THE ROCK! Re:Re: is set to follow in Japan on August 9, 2024. As previously reported, Crunchyroll plans to bring the two recap films to theaters in North America.
Coming in second was Case Closed: The Million-dollar Pentagram, the 27th feature film in the Case Closed/Detective Conan anime franchise, one position up from last weekend. In its ninth weekend, the movie earned 170 million yen (1.08 million USD) on 119,000 admissions, 48 percent down from last weekend. The movie now has a 58-day cumulative of 14.6 billion yen (92.97 million USD) from 10.25 million ticket sales.Umamusume: Pretty Derby Beginning of a New Era, an all-new feature film from the Umamusume: Pretty Derby franchise, ranked fifth in its third weekend, down one position from last weekend. After making its fifth-place debut last weekend, the live-action feature film inspired by Soichiro Yamamoto’s romantic comedy manga series Teasing Master Takagi-san, also known as KARAKAI JOZU NO TAKAGI-SAN, was down one position to sixth in its second weekend.The second chapter of Code Geass: Rozé of the Recapture opened in 60 theaters on June 7, ranking seventh in its opening weekend. The first chapter, released on May 10, didn’t make a Top 10 debut.Code Geass: Rozé of the Recapture is a series featuring a new protagonist Rozé, which depicts the world after Code Geass: Lelouch of the Re;surrection. The 12-episode series will screen in theaters in four parts (with three episodes each). Following the first chapter released on May 10, the second part released in Japan on June 7. The third chapter is set to release in Japan on July 5, with the fourth chapter following on August 2. Internationally, the series will stream on Disney+ starting June 21, with new episodes releasing weekly under the ‘Star’ brand.
IDOLiSH 7 LIVE 4bit BEYOND THE PERiOD, the first live concert film in the male idol-themed multimedia franchise IDOLiSH7, once again returned to the eighth spot in its 56th weekend thanks to the first anniversary screening event on June 8 and 9.The film which depicts the stage performances of the franchise’s four idol groups: IDOLiSH7, TRIGGER, Re:vale, and ZOOL originally opened in Japan on May 20, 2023. The film’s official Twitter confirmed the movie earned a cumulative 3.26 billion yen (20.74 million USD) on 1,82 million admissions from its domestic run.IDOLiSH7 the Movie LIVE 4bit BEYOND THE PERIOD is now available on Crunchyroll for members in North America, Central America, South America, Europe, Africa, Oceania, the Middle East, CIS and India.
A live-action film adaptation of Tomoko Yamashita’s Ikoku Nikki opened in 293 theaters on June 7, ranking ninth in its opening weekend. The movie directed by Natsuki Seta (Diorama Boy Panorama Girl) ranked fifth in Filmarks’ first-day satisfaction ranking with an average rating of 3.82/5.0 based on 3.168 reviews.
