On June 7, the production committee for the anime series released a statement regarding reports that a North Korean production company may have been involved in the animation production, originally reported by 38 North on April 22. The statement claims that in response to the report, the production committee launched an investigation into contract work by Typhoon Graphics to a Japanese production company, who then subcontracted work to a Chinese company, and then additionally outsourced to another Chinese company. Upon requests of subcontracted staff involved in each episode, one company did not comply with the request. As such, the production committee could not rule out a North Korean production company worked on the series and decided to remake the portions in question with Japanese staff. The revised version is now scheduled to broadcast, according to the statement. The production committee then additionally stated on June 7 that the anime was still scheduled for July.

The original Dahlia in Bloom light novels are written by Hisaya Amagishi, illustrated by Kei and published in Japan by Media Factory under their MF Bunko imprint. An English language version is also available from J-Novel Club.

J-Novel Club describes the story:

After dying of overwork in Japan, Dahlia is reborn into a world filled with magic. Raised by a master of magical toolmaking, she develops a passion for the craft and becomes engaged to her father’s apprentice. Before her father can see her wed, however, he suddenly passes away. As if this weren’t enough, on the day before their wedding, her fiancé announces that he’s in love—but not with her! Dahlia finally realizes she needs to live for herself. She vows to be her own woman from now on and devote herself to her craft, even if it’s not quite the quiet life she was hoping for! From a chance encounter with a knight to starting her own company, there are challenges aplenty on the horizon. But this young craftswoman is no longer a shrinking violet—she’s Dahlia, and she’s ready to bloom.
