After holding the first place for two consecutive weekends since its debut, Kingdom: Daishougun no Kikan (Return of The Great General), the fourth installment in the live-action Kingdom film series, slipped to second place in its third weekend of release.In the weekend of July 26-28, Kingdom: Daishougun no Kikan earned 561 million yen (3.65 million USD) on 364,000 admissions according to Kogyo Tsushinsha. While the numbers were down 31.3 percent from last weekend, the movie still surpassed the opening weekend revenue of Deadpool & Wolverine (513 million yen) which opened in Japan on July 24. After 16 days of release, the fourth Kingdom live-action film has earned a cumulative 4.6 billion yen (29.9 million USD) on 3.13 million admissions in Japan, which is the best box office performance in the live-action film series through the end of its third weekend of release. Mononoke the Movie: Karakasa, which tells a continuing story of the Medicine Seller from the 2006 Mononoke TV anime, opened in 229 theaters across Japan on July 26 and made a seventh-place debut. Meanwhile, the movie ranked second in Filmarks’ first-day satisfaction ranking with an average rating of 4.0/5.0 based on 2,046 reviews. A second film, subtitled “Hinezumi” (“Fire Rat”), was announced to release on March 14, 2025 alongside a third film additionally planned to conclude the film project.
Gekijou-ban SutoPuri Hajimari no Monogatari ~ Strawberry School Festival!!!~ (Strawberry Prince The Movie: A Story of The Beginning ~Strawberry School Festival!!!!~), the anime feature film inspired by Japanese VTuber boy band Strawberry Prince (SutoPuri for short), went down five positions to eighth in its second weekend. The movie’s official X (formerly Twitter) announced on Monday that the movie had a cumulative box office of 300 million yen (1.95 million USD) from 280,000 ticket sales in ten days since debuting on July 19.Look Back, the anime movie based on the one-shot manga by Tatsuki Fujimoto (Chainsaw Man), went down three places to ninth in its fifth weekend.
