After a U.S. theatrical release and a Blu-ray release, BLUE GIANT finally has its streaming release plans in place.According to the latest announcement, the anime film will be available on Netflix in the U.S. and Canada starting on September 1, 2024. GKIDS licensed the film in the U.S. and previously hosted a limited theatrical screening in October 2023 with a Blu-ray release following in April 2024.

The film, directed by Yuzuru Tachikawa (Mob Psycho 100) at NUT, was released in Japan on February 17. Shinichi Ishizuka’s manga has been serialized in Shogakukan’s Big Comic since May 2013. Following the first arc, BLUE GIANT set in Japan (May 2013 – August 2016) and the second arc BLUE GIANT Supreme set in Europe (September 2016 – April 2020), its story entered the third arc BLUE GIANT Explorer in May 2020 and was set in the United States. A total of 27 collected volumes have been released in Japan with over 8.8 million copies printed so far.Seven Seas Enterainment has been handling the English-language release since November 2020.GKIDS describes the film:
Dai Miyamoto’s life is turned upside down the day he discovers jazz. A former high school basketball player, Dai picks up a saxophone and begins practicing day and night, determined to become one of the greatest of all time. He leaves his sleepy hometown for the bustling nightclubs of Tokyo, but soon finds the life of a professional musician is not for the faint of heart. His passion eventually wins over the cocky but talented pianist Yukinori, and after Dai convinces his friend Shunji to learn the drums, they launch a new jazz trio whose rough sound contains a raw energy that quickly wins attention from local audiences.
