BOCCHI THE ROCK! Re:Re:, the second of the two-part recap films based on the BOCCHI THE ROCK! TV anime series, ranked sixth in its opening weekend at the Japanese box office, according to Kogyo Tsushin.Two months after the first film released in June, BOCCHI THE ROCK! Re:Re: opened in 134 theaters across Japan on August 9 and earned 250 million yen (1.7 million USD) on 166,000 admissions in its first four days according to the anime’s official X (formerly Twitter) account. While the first BOCCHI THE ROCK! recap movie initially debuted in first place, the first four-day box office performance for Re:Re: exceeded the first film’s three-day performance of 218 million yen (1.48 million USD). The first film’s total domestic gross reached 640 million yen (4.35 million USD) on 420,000 admissions according to Mantan Web. As previously reported, Crunchyroll plans to bring the two recap films to theaters in North America.
Eiga: Crayon Shin-chan: Oratachi no Kyoryu Nikki (Crayon Shin-chan The Movie: Our Dinosaurs Diary), the 31st feature film from the Crayon Shin-chan anime franchise, debuted in 369 theaters across Japan on August 9 and earned 455 million yen (3.09 million USD) on 365,000 admissions in its first three days, making its second place debut. Its first four-day gross of 636 million yen (4.32 million USD) from 510,000 ticket sales was 140 percent of that of the previous 30th film, Shin Jigen! Crayon Shin-chan the Movie: Chounouryoku Daikessen – Tobe Tobe Temakizushi (New Dimension! Crayon Shin-chan the movie: Supernatural Power Big Battle ~Fly Fly Temakizushi~), which became the Crayon Shin-chan anime franchise’s top-grossing film with a total gross of 2.47 billion yen (16.8 million USD). The movie also ranked second in Filmarks’ first-day satisfaction ranking with an average rating of 3.67/5.0 based on 648 reviews.
The latest feature film in the My Hero Academia anime franchise went down two positions to third with 346 million yen (2.35 million USD) on 232,000 admissions in its second weekend. Its cumulative total gross has reached 1.7 billion yen (11.56 million USD) on 1.22 million admissions.The fourth Kingdom live-action film, Kingdom: Daishougun no Kikan (Return of The Great General), ranked fifth in its fifth weekend, bringing its total to 6.1 billion yen (41.49 million USD) on 4.16 million admissions. It is now the top-grossing film in the live-action Kingdom film series, surpassing the first film’s total revenue of 5.73 billion yen (38.97 million USD) in 2019.
The live-action film adaptation of Tsubasa Yamaguchi’s coming-of-age manga Blue Period debuted in 344 theaters on August 9, ranking eighth in its opening weekend. Meanwhile, the movie ranked first in Filmarks’ first-day satisfaction ranking with an average rating of 3.81/5.0 based on 1,109 reviews.
