The official website for the feature film Mobile Suit Gundam SEED FREEDOM today announced that a limited-time special edition of the film, updated with more than 500 scenes from the original version, will be released in theaters in Japan. The first part of the updated edition will be shown from September 20 to October 3, 2024, and the second part from November 1 to 14. A different epilogue scene will be added in each.A trailer for the special edition is now streamed on the Gundam Seed franchise’s official X (formerly Twitter).

“Thanks to your support and encouragement, we have decided to screen a special edition of ‘Gundam SEED FREEDOM’,” said director Mitsuo Fukuda. “In the original version that was screened from January 26, due to time constraints, it was not possible to make all the scenes to the extent that each section was satisfied with. This time, we have updated those scenes and also made some changes to various parts of the film, including those that were uncomfortable after the screening. I think we can say that this is the perfect version of ‘SEED FREEDOM.’ Short episodes were newly written for the end of the ending as an epilogue. We hope you will enjoy them as well!”
As a sequel to the Mobile Suit Gundam Seed franchise, Mobile Suit Gundam SEED FREEDOM opened in Japan on January 26, 2024, and earned 4.82 billion yen (33.5 million USD) on 2.88 million admissions by May 22. It has become the top-grossing film in the 45-year-olfd Gundam anime franchise, surpassing Mobile Suit Gundam: Encounters in Space, the third part of the compilation film series based on the first Mobile Suit Gundam TV series, which earned 2.3 billion yen (15.5 million USD) in 1982.
