Bringing a huge sprawling video game city to life is no easy task, especially one that is set over two time periods. A new behind-the-scenes video for the upcoming Like a Dragon: Yakuza live-action reveals how the series crew is bringing the fictional Kamurocho, often seen in every entry of the Like a Dragon franchise, to life. And having to do so while juggling the inspiration from the real-life Kabukicho and the story of the original story based on the series.

The sets (below) very much take inspiration from Kabukicho, just as the Yakuza games always have, while building its own world. For fans of the games, the main square set may come as a surprise but very familiar signage is recreated for the series, hinting at certain popular locations.

Like a Dragon: Yakuza is set to be streamed worldwide over six episodes on Amazon Prime Video starting October 24 with the first three episodes and the last three episodes streaming a week later. The series will be dubbed/subbed in 30 languages. A Nintendo Switch version of Kiryu’s first story, Yakuza Kiwami, will also be released on October 24.

Amazon Prime Video describes the series as such:

In 1995 and 2005, spanning across two time-periods, Like a Dragon: Yakuza, an original crime-suspense-action series, follows the life, childhood friends, and repercussions of the decisions of Kazuma Kiryu, a fearsome and peerless Yakuza warrior with a strong sense of justice, duty, and humanity.
