Classic series Doraemon is well known for its many futuristic gadgets, from the Anywhere Door to a toaster that helps you memorize information. For its latest collab, the series is teaming up with ANREALAGE: a fashion brand that, like Doraemon himself, combines future tech with everyday items. The result is a line of unique, unusual wearables reminiscent of the beloved character.Fashion designer Kunihiko Morinaga says the inspiration comes from the interpretation of “SF” not as sci-fi or science fantasy, but “sukoshi fushigi” (“a little mysterious”). His goal was to create “everyday 22nd century clothes”: something wearable and convenient, but with a little bit of weirdness baked in.That’s definitely true of this blue-and-white button-down shirt. While it drapes nicely while worn, it turns spherical if you button it all the way up!
Other items in the line make use of ANREALAGE’s photochromic technology, revealing new design elements under light. There’s a fur coat that changes color in the sun, a plain button-down shirt that reveals Doraemon-colored dots under UV light, and a simple tee that casts shadows under sunlight:
If you’re looking for something a little more down-to-earth, there’s a reversible jacket with a winding zipper, as well as a plain and simple tee featuring the Doraemon cast:
These items will be available at the Doraemon x ANREALAGE CS Case Study Pop-Up Shop from September 4-10. The shop will have two locations: at Shinjuku Takashimaya in Tokyo and at Osaka Takashimaya in Osaka.
