Japan Box Office: Naoko Yamada’s The Colors Within Ranks No.7 in Opening Weekend

The Colors Within (known as Kimi no Iro in Japan), an original theatrical anime film directed by Naoko Yamada (Liz and the Blue Bird), ranked #7 in its opening weekend of August 30-Spetember 1 according to Kogyo Tsushinsha. After the world premiere at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival in June, the 100-minute film produced by Science SARU opened in 273 theaters across Japan on August 30. The movie also ranked third in Filmarks’ first-day satisfaction ranking with an average rating of 3.92/5.0 based on 2,023 reviews.

Eiga: Crayon Shin-chan: Oratachi no Kyoryu Nikki (Crayon Shin-chan The Movie: Our Dinosaurs Diary), the 31st feature film from the Crayon Shin-chan anime franchise earned 173 million yen (1.18 million USD) on 148,000 admissions in its fourth weekend, staying at the same third spot from last weekend. The movie now has a cumulative of 2.1 billion yen (14.27 million USD) on 1.77 million admissions in Japan.

In its fifth weekend, the latest feature film in the My Hero Academia anime franchise climbed up two places to fourth. Kingdom: Daishougun no Kikan (Return of The Great General) ranked sixth, one position down from last weekend, in its eighth weekend. Its total accumulative gross has reached 7.4 billion yen (50.33 million USD) from 5.02 million ticket sales. Now it ranked #97 in the all-time box office ranking for films ever released in Japan, surpassing Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them (2016) with 7.34 billion yen.In the last weekend of its three-week revival screening, THE FIRST SLAM DUNK ranked ninth, one position up from last weekend. Meanwhile, the live-action film adaptation of Rensuke Oshikiri’s (High Score Girl creator) horror manga Sayuri stayed the same eighth place from its debut weekend.
