Cowboy Bebop is one of the most beloved and influential anime of all time, shaped by global influences and a unique musical DNA. Covering it in full would be a massive undertaking—and that’s just what Telos Publishing has taken on.

The small UK-based publisher, known for genre fiction and non-fiction, will be publishing Three, Two, One: Let’s Jam! The Unofficial and Unauthorised Guide to the Original Cowboy Bebop. Penned by Satoru Stevenson, the 630-page book promises to present a new level of “critical and analytical scrutiny” for the much-loved anime series.

Stevenson’s guide promises the deepest dive the West has yet seen into Cowboy Bebop: from the making of Yoko Kanno’s iconic soundtrack to the show’s battle with network censors, from up-front influences to background minutiae. The book also promises a comprehensive guide to all media related to the original anime series—the first of its kind in English—including TV specials, short films and video games.

The book also feature an introduction by Anime: A History author Jonathan Clements, who states: ‘Cowboy Bebop finally has a critical appraisal that delves deep into its inspirations and effects.’

Three, Two, One: Let’s Jam! The Unofficial and Unauthorised Guide to the Original Cowboy Bebop goes on sale October 1. Pre-orders are now open on the Telos Publishing website.

Crunchyroll currently streams the original Cowboy Bebop TV anime, describing it thus:

The Bebop crew is just trying to make a buck. This motley lot of intergalactic loners teams up to track down fugitives and turn them in for cold hard cash. Spike is a hero whose cool façade hides a dark and deadly past. The pilot Jet is a bruiser of a brute who can’t wait to collect the next bounty. Faye Valentine is a femme fatale prone to breaking hearts and separating fools from their money. Along for the ride are the brilliant, but weird, hacker Ed and a super-genius Welsh Corgi named Ein.
