Disclaimer: Crunchyroll is an independently operated joint venture between U.S.-based Sony Pictures Entertainment and Japan’s Aniplex.Even though it seems like only yesterday that PlayStation 5 consoles were the hottest item on the market, it’s been nearly four years since the launch and for Sony, that means a mid-cycle pro upgrade with “double the power” according to Lead Architect of the PS5 Mark Cerny. With Cerny hosting, PlayStation laid out the big three upgrades for the PlayStation 5 Pro over the original model in a nine-minute Technical Presentation that showcased games we know playing with more power and AI features.

According to Cerny, the PS5 Pro has a larger GPU that is 45% faster than the base PS5 by itself, coupling that with the new AI-driven upscaling called PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR), it is said to be “double the power” of the original model. PSSR is one of the big three upgrades as well as the GPU and advanced ray tracing.

Other upgrades include PS5 Pro Game Boost for PS4 games on the PS5 Pro, increasing resolution and frame rate, WI-FI 7 and a 2TB SSD. As for the disc drive and vertical stand, both are sold separately. In the US, the PS5 Pro will cost US$699.99, while in Japan it comes in at a hefty 119,980 yen.The PlayStation 5 Pro releases on November 7, 2024, with pre-orders starting on September 26.
