The show’s not over yet for Girls Band Cry. Just a little over a month after finally making it to streaming platforms in North America, Toei’s girl band series has announced that it will be adapted into a two-part compilation film.

The announcement was made at Togenashi Togeari’s second solo live, which was held today. There are no further details at this time beyond the fact that these two films will exist, but more details will be forthcoming in future.

In other news, the Girls Band Cry game is still in production. Open auditions will be held for a new set of characters, who will appear in the game as a new band. Of course, becoming a band in this franchise means that, like Togenashi Togeari, the new cast will release songs, perform live and appear at live events! The first round of auditions closes October 8. Additionally, this new image was released:

Finally—at least for now—plans are underway for Togenashi Togeari’s fifth solo live show. The show will take place February 7, 2025 at Pacifico Yokohama in Kanagawa: the largest venue yet for the band.

Kazuo Sakai directed Girls Band Cry at animation studio Toei Animation, with Jukki Hanada providing the series composition, Nari Teshima on the character designs and Kenji Tamai as composter. The series originally broadcast in Japan from April to June 2024 with 13 episodes. The series is now available on streaming platforms including Fandango at Home, Microsoft, Amazon Prime Video and Hoopla.

The story of Girls Band Cry is described as follows:

The main character drops out of high school in her second year, and aims at entering a university while working alone in Tokyo.

A girl is betrayed by her friends and doesn’t know what to do.

Another girl is abandoned by her parents, and tries to survive in the city by doing part-time jobs.

This world lets us down all the time.

Nothing goes as planned.

But we want something that we can continue to like.

We believe there’s a place where we belong. That’s why we sing.
