The official YouTube channel for the two-member unit YOASOBI has started streaming a music video for their latest digital single song, “Monotone.” The lyrical pop tune is featured as the theme song for the upcoming original anime feature film Fureru to release in Japan on October 4.”Monotone” is YOASOBI’s first theme song work for an anime feature film. It is based on the novel Fureu. no, Zenya, (“The night before Fureru.”) written by Mari Okada, who also wrote the screenplay for the movie. The music video is a completely original creation by the film’s production team. It depicts new animation footage featuring the three childhood friends who are the main characters and the mysterious creature ‘Fureru,’ which was not depicted in the film.

“Our newly-written song ‘Monotone’ was created while confronting the ‘relationships between people’ that we have felt through this film, as well as the loneliness that we feel in our own life and the fondness for someone,” said YOASOBI. “The world is developing day by day, and it is easy to communicate with each other through various tools. That is why we feel it is important to deal with the loneliness we feel, so we have included these thoughts in this song. We hope you enjoy this song along with the film.”

Fureru 2nd Trailer Featuring The Theme Song
Director Tatsuyuki Nagai, screenwriter Mari Okada and character designer Masayoshi Tanaka — who worked together on the “youth” trilogy that consists of Anohana: The Flower We Saw That Day (2011, 2013), The Anthem of the Heart (2015), and Her Blue Sky (2019) — reunite to create this original anime feature film, Fureru.
