With how long the One Piece series has endured, it has had to branch into many different plot points to fully realize the story of the Straw Hats. But, one aspect that Eiichiro Oda’s series has rarely touched on is how the average person living in the world reacts to the Straw Hat pirates. To celebrate the 25th anniversary of the anime adaptation of One Piece, the series will be doing just that, adapting the short stories from Tomohito Ohsaki’s Straw Hat Stories novel in a special titled ONE PIECE FAN LETTER.
A trailer for the episode, which broadcasts on October 20, was released alongside a visual of a young girl looking at a wall of wanted posters.
ONE PIECE FAN LETTER Trailer and Visual
ONE PIECE FAN LETTER is directed by popular episode director Megumi Ishitani, who is known for episodes 957, 1015 and openings 25 and 26, with a script written by Momoka Toyoda (My Happy Marriage) and character designs and animation direction from Keisuke Mori, who also worked on opening 26.
The original Straw Hat Stories novel is a collection of short stories featuring people’s perspectives on the Straw Hats, with each story following one of the members of the crew. This includes a story of a Marine watching Luffy trying to protect Ace during Marineford and how it reflects their relationship with their younger brother, who is also a Marine on Marineford. Another story is of Zoro getting into an argument over who’s the best swordsman after Dressrosa. And another features a kid pirating Soul King’s concert on Sabaody Archipelago.
Based on the long-running manga by Eiichiro Oda, all of the One Piece anime so far is available to stream on Crunchyroll, which describes the series as such:
Monkey D. Luffy refuses to let anyone or anything stand in the way of his quest to become the king of all pirates. With a course charted for the treacherous waters of the Grand Line and beyond, this is one captain who’ll never give up until he’s claimed the greatest treasure on Earth: the Legendary One Piece!
