2024 marks the 10th anniversary of Expelled from Paradise, the 3DCG anime film directed by Seiji Mizushima (Fullmetal Alchemist) and written by Gen Urobuchi (Puella Magi Madoka Magica). To celebrate, the film is being converted to 4K for a special anniversary screening.
Titled Expelled from Paradise -Impelled by 10th Anniversary-, the new upconverted version of the film will screen in Japanese cinemas for two weeks starting November 15. A new trailer and poster have been released in advance of the screening:
Expelled from Paradise debuted in Japan in 2014. Aniplex of America held a total of 15 screenings across the US in December of the same year. The film follows Angela Balzac, an agent living in a virtual reality world aboard a space station, as she assumes an organic body to investigate a hacker on the now-barren planet Earth. With the help of a man named Dingo, she tracks down the mysterious “Frontier Setter,” while learning to appreciate life in an organic body.
A sequel, titled Expelled from Paradise: Resonance of the Heart, was reported to be in production earlier this year.
