Bandai Namco Film Works today announced the release of “THE BIG-O 25th Anniversary Negotiation Files,” an official design works collection book commemorating the 25th anniversary of THE BIG O anime series.
THE BIG O is a 26-episode TV anime series produced by Sunrise (now Namco Bandai Film Works). The first season aired for 13 episodes from October 1999 to January 2000, followed by the second season with another 13 episodes from January to March 2003. The retro-style stylish design and the incorporation of elements from American comics and cartoons made the series popular not only in Japan but also overseas.Sunrise’s official English website for the series describes the anime’s synopsis as such:
Forty years ago everyone in Paradigm City lost their memory. But humanity continues to survive. They’ve learned to operate machinery, produce electricity, and go on living from day to day. Roger Smith is a Negotiator. He controls the Megadeus called the Big O. Together with the unusual R. Dorothy Wayneright and Roger’s loyal butler Norman, Roger keeps Paradigm City safe from the nightmare of memories.
The book contains reference drawings of characters and mechanics of THE BIG O, background art reference, and past copyrighted illustrations, as well as story introduction pages and some storyboards for the opening and ending movies.Additionally, a voice cast discussion with Mitsuru Miyamoto (Roger Smith) and Akiko Yajima (R. Dorothy Wayneright), a staff conversation with Kazuyoshi Katayama (director and series composition), Chiaki Konaka (script and series composition), and Toshihiko Sahashi (music), and a solo interview with Keiichi Sato (concept work, supervisor, character and mechanical designer) are also featured in the book.
Pre-orders for the 9,900 yen (67 USD) book will be accepted at A-on STORE, the official online site of Namco Bandai Film Works, and Sunrise Store in Premium Bandai from October 11, 2024 at 12:00 noon (JST), and the deadline for pre-orders is January 26, 2025 at 23:59. The scheduled shipping date is around late March 2025.
