The R15+ version of The Birth of Kitaro: The Mystery of GeGeGe (known as Kitaro Tanjou: GeGeGe no Nazo in Japan), subtitled Shinsei-ban (“Genuine edition”), ranked in eighth place on its third weekend of October 18-20, down three positions from last weekend, according to Kogyo Tsushinsha. The film’s original PG12 version, which opened in Japan in November 2023, stayed in the box office Top 10 for 11 consecutive weekends from November 17-19, 2023 to January 26-28, 2024.
Voltes V: Legacy, a Filipino live-action film remake of the 1970s Japanese robot anime Super Electromagnetic Machine Voltes V (Cho Denji Machine Voltes V in Japan), opened in 179 theaters on October 18 and made a ninth-place debut. According to GMA News, the 107-minute film is a compilation of the initial 15 episodes of the TV series, which consisted of 90 episodes in total. The film also ranked sixth in Filmarks’ first-day satisfaction ranking with an average rating of 3.43/5.0 based on 388 reviews.
The official X (formerly Twitter) for Gekijou-ban SutoPuri Hajimari no Monogatari ~ Strawberry School Festival!!!~ (translated to Strawberry Prince The Movie: A Story of The Beginning ~Strawberry School Festival!!!!~) announced that the film’s cumulative total gross had surpassed 700 million yen (4.65 million USD). The anime feature film inspired by Japanese VTuber boy band Strawberry Prince (SutoPuri for short) opened in Japan on July 19. As previously reported, the film reached the 600 million yen (3.98 million USD) mark in 51 days through early September.
Given The Movie: Umi e, the final installment of the given anime series, has now stayed at in first place in Kogyo Tsushinsha’s mini-theater ranking for five consecutive weekends since debuting in 30 theaters on September 20.
