One Piece Manga Goes on Two-Week Break While Oda Works on Live-Action Series

There’s so much going on for One Piece right now that the entire system needs some time to catch up. The official One Piece X (formerly Twitter) account announced alongside the release of this week’s Weekly Shonen Jump that Eiichiro Oda’s epic will be going on a two-week break while Oda is busy working on the second season of the One Piece live-action show. In place of the chapters, a special feature from the creator himself will be released each week.

In next week’s issue, Oda will be showing off some “local souvenir presents” from around the world of One Piece while the week after will see Oda answering ten questions. What those questions are is anyone’s guess. If you’ve ever read the SBS in the collected One Piece volumes, you’ll know they can go off the port bow.

The manga isn’t the only piece of One Piece going on break with the One Piece anime officially on hiatus until April 2025. The series is instead airing a special edited version of the Fish-Man Island arc each week, condensing the original arc into 21 episodes with updated animation, new cuts and newly voiced lines. Crunchyroll streams the entire One Piece series thus far, and will be continuing to do so for One Piece Log: Fish-Man Island Saga, which is described as such:

The Straw Hats reunite at Sabaody! The promised day has arrived. The Straw Hats have made it back to Sabaody Archipelago after two arduous years of separation. In the very same place where they once lost to Pacifista, the Straw Hats have proven themselves to be stronger and ready to begin their journey to the New World. With the Thousand Sunny now equipped to travel underwater, the next stop is the Fish-Man Island. “One Piece Log: Fish-Man Island Saga” is a special edited version of the original arc from “One Piece”, in an abridged 21-episode story with an enhanced contemporary visual look.
