STEINS;GATE, a science fiction visual novel developed by 5pb. and Nitroplus, is celebrating its 15th anniversary this year, and now a new version of the game entitled STEINS;GATE REBOOT has been announced at a special event that was held in Matsudo City, Chiba Prefecture, Japan. A teaser video (below) has been released from the game, which is scheduled to be released in 2025.
According to reporting by Famitsu.com, STEINS;GATE REBOOT will feature updated graphics and new story elements. Additionally, huke, the original character designer for STEINS;GATE, will reprise their role for the new version. At the time of this writing, no further details about the game (such as the release platforms) have yet been revealed.
STEINS;GATE was originally released in Japan for Xbox 360 on October 15, 2009, and it has since been been released for other platforms such as PC, PlayStation platforms, Nintendo Switch and more. Spike Chunsoft Co., Ltd. also publishes an English language version of the game on Steam. Crunchyroll currently streams the anime adaptations (STEINS;GATE and Steins;Gate 0), and describes the story as follows:
Steins; Gate follows an eclectic group of individuals who have the ability to send text messages to the past. However throughout their experimentation process, an organization named SERN who has been doing their own research on time travel tracks them down. Now it’s a careful game of cat and mouse to not get caught and moreover, try to survive.
