An anime classic for the ages is coming to Crunchyroll today as Tomorrow’s Joe, known as Ashita no Joe in Japan, starts streaming on the platform later today! Tomorrow’s Joe Season 1 will be available on Crunchyroll on November 14 at 4:00 p.m. PT, with Season 2 available on December 3 at 4:00 p.m. PT. Synopsis: Rebellious Joe Yabuki wanders the downtown slums. After a street fight with the yakuza to save a girl, his skills catch the eye of former boxing coach Danpei Tange, who offers to train him. Joe rejects, until he ends up in juvenile detention and suffers his first defeat by the hands of Toru Rikiishi. This rivalry ignites his passion for boxing, and Joe begins intensive training with Danpei.
The original manga written by Asao Takamori and illustrated by Tetsuya Chiba ran in Kodansha’s Weekly Shonen Magazine from 1968 to 1973 for a total of 20 volumes. Kodansha USA will release the series in English under the name Ashita no Joe: Fighting for Tomorrow starting in December 2024. Osamu Dezaki directed the first season of the original anime series at Mushi Production for 79 episodes from 1970 to 1971. Dezaki also directed the second season at TMS for 47 episodes from 1980 to 1981.To commemorate the 50th anniversary of the original manga, TMS Entertainment produced the original anime series MEGALOBOX which aired for 13 episodes in 2018. The second season, titled MEGALOBOX 2: NOMAD, aired for 13 episodes 2021. Both seasons are currently streaming on Crunchyroll.
