Japan Box Office: Attack on Titan: THE LAST ATTACK Compilation Film Retains No.2 in 3rd Weekend

Attack on Titan: THE LAST ATTACK, a compilation film of the two-part Attack on Titan Final Season THE FINAL CHAPTERS anime episodes, earned 194 million yen (1.26 million USD) on 138,000 admissions in its third weekend in the Japanese box office, holding onto its second-place spot it held last weekend, according to Kogyo Tsushinsha. Its third-weekend numbers exceed those of last weekend (179 million yen on 125,000 admissions) in its second weekend of release. The film now has an accumulative total of 800 million yen (5.19 million USD) earned from 570,000 ticket sales since debuting in Japanese theaters on November 8.The film was originally scheduled to end its three-week limited theatrical run in Japan on November 28.

However, due to this strong box office performance, the film’s official website announced on November 19 that the screening period will be extended.

Gintama on Theater 2D Kintama-hen, the third compilation film based on the Gintama TV anime, started its three-week limited theatrical run in 198 theaters across Japan on November 22, making a ninth-place debut. As previously reported, two more compilation films were confirmed to release theatrically in Japan in February 2025. The first film, based on the TV anime’s Shinsengumi Crisis Arc (Shinsengumi Douran-hen in Japan), is set to release on February 7, 2025. The second film, based on the Kabukicho Four Devas Arc (Kabukicho Shitennou-hen) will follow on February 21, 2025.

The second chapter of Star Blazers: Space Battleship Yamato 3199, subtitled “Sekijitsu no Shutsugeki” (translated to “The Sortie on Red Day”), released in 72 theaters on November 22, ranking 10th in its opening weekend. The second chapter followed the first that made an eighth-place debut in July. The upcoming third chapter of the new seven-chapter series (which will consist of 26 episodes), subtitled “Gunjou no Asteroid” (“Asteroid of the Ultramarine Blue”), will start its theatrical screenings in Japan on April 11, 2025. Crunchyroll is now streaming the first two episodes of Space Battleship Yamato 3199.

The live-action film adaptation of Yui Tamura’s Yano-kun no Futsu no Hibi did not appear in the Top 10 in its second weekend after making a fifth-place debut.
