On October 6, 1974, at 7:30 p.m., the first episode of the TV anime Space Battleship Yamato (Star Blazers in the West) broadcast in Japan. The 26-episode series shocked many viewers and became a social phenomenon in Japan.Under the title “Space Battleship Yamato 50th Anniversary Selection Screening,” selected episodes from the first TV series will screen at the Shinjuku Piccadilly theater in Tokyo and 42 other theaters nationwide starting December 27, 2024. This screening is part of the 50th anniversary project planned and produced by Hideaki Anno, who says, “I don’t think I would be where I am today without my encounter with ‘Space Battleship Yamato’.” Three episodes will be shown each week, selected by Anno from a total of 26 episodes.
A trailer for the screening, supervised by Anno himself and produced by khara, is now streamed.
Three types of poster visuals have also been revealed, which were refined under the supervision of Anno from those drawn in the past as package visuals for laser discs and DVDs. These posters will be given to theatergoers as bonus items on a first-come, first-served basis.
